about me

Well, let's see. How to distill... I was born and raised in Nebraska, but live now on the Washington state coast, in Bellingham, and I’m a nurse—work that brings me deep satisfaction. But I’m also a poet, occasional short story writer, and photographer. This creative work is an entirely different form of satisfaction, and is always what I find most interesting about other people: how we express ourselves. And that leads me to the next thing you should know about me: I stutter, and have difficulty expressing myself verbally. It’s not severe, and I often “pass” as fluent, but the frustration of it all led me to alternative means (mediums?) for expressing myself in full: writing and photography.

About My Writing

My poetry is easy to read, and honest (to an often embarrassing level). For years it was difficult for me to share it with others, especially with people that know me personally. But here it all is! Here I am.

About my photography

I shoot with a FUJIFILM X-T30 using a 18-55 mm lens, and primarily work in black and white. My “look” is surreal, dream-like images that range from comforting nostalgia to atmospheric unease. I don’t do any post-processing in Photoshop or Lightroom with my photos (out of laziness, and preference). What you see is all done using the double exposure feature built into my camera. Using nearby surface textures, different angles of nearby surroundings or, often, a white notecard, these images are layered, and imperfect—a reflection of our world, myself and, maybe, yourself too.
